The Story Behind love is. A Father, A Daughter, and a Brand Built on Love

Some of the most important conversations in life happen when you least expect them.

Not in a boardroom.

Not during a business meeting.

Not while chasing a dream.

Sometimes they happen during a simple phone call between a father and his daughter.

For us, that’s exactly how love is. began.

My daughter and I live a few states apart. Because of custody arrangements, we’re only physically together for about three months out of the year. To some people, that might sound like a challenge. And in many ways, it is. Nothing replaces being able to hug your child whenever you want. Nothing replaces the little moments that happen when you’re under the same roof.

But love has a way of finding a path.

Every day, no matter where we are, we make time for each other. We FaceTime. We laugh. We talk about school, friends, dreams, fears, and sometimes absolutely nothing at all. Somewhere along the way, distance stopped being the thing that defined our relationship.

Love did.

Over the years, I became her first phone call when something exciting happened. Her first phone call when something went wrong. The person she could celebrate with. The person she could cry with. The person she could trust with anything.

And one day, during what seemed like an ordinary conversation, she asked me a question that would change everything.

“Dad, what’s love to you?”

The question came from a discussion she was having in class. At first, it sounded simple. After all, everyone knows what love is… right?

But the more we talked, the more we realized how difficult the question really was.

What is love?

Is it a feeling?

Is it sacrifice?

Is it loyalty?

Is it forgiveness?

Is it protection?

Is it patience?

Is it showing up?

The truth is, the answer seemed to be all of those things and so much more.

For over an hour, we talked back and forth, trying to define something that every person experiences differently. The deeper the conversation became, the more we realized that maybe the problem wasn’t that we didn’t know what love was.

Maybe the problem was that we were trying to fit something so powerful into a single definition.

The world talks about love constantly.

Songs are written about it.

Movies are built around it.

People search for it their entire lives.

Yet somehow, many of us still struggle to recognize it when we see it.

Some people think love is grand gestures.

Others think it’s words.

Some think it’s gifts.

Others think it’s sacrifice.

For a parent, love may be working long hours to provide for a family.

For a child, love may be knowing someone always answers the phone.

For a spouse, love may be staying when things get difficult.

For a friend, love may be showing up when nobody else does.

The more we talked, the more one thing became clear:

The world doesn’t need another company telling people what love is.

The world needs a reminder to think about it.

That’s when the idea for love is. was born.

Not as a clothing brand.

Not as a business.

Not as a logo.

But as a conversation.

An unfinished sentence.

A question waiting to be answered.

Because the truth is, love isn’t one thing.

It’s thousands of things.

It’s the father calling every day.

It’s the mother sacrificing quietly.

It’s the friend who stays.

It’s the stranger who helps.

It’s forgiveness.

It’s grace.

It’s patience.

It’s courage.

It’s choosing someone over and over again.

And every person has their own answer.

That’s why you’ll never see us try to define love for you.

Instead, we want to invite you into the conversation that started between a father and his daughter.

A conversation that reminded us that the most important things in life aren’t always the easiest things to explain.

So we’ll ask you the same question she asked me.

What is love to you?

Maybe it’s family.

Maybe it’s faith.

Maybe it’s loyalty.

Maybe it’s sacrifice.

Maybe it’s healing.

Maybe it’s hope.

Whatever your answer is, it’s valid.

Because love is. was never meant to finish the sentence for you.

It was meant to help you tell your story.

The conversation started with a father and a daughter separated by miles but connected by something stronger than distance.

Today, that conversation belongs to all of us.

So tell us.

In your opinion…

love is.
